Den vesle prinsen

The Little Prince

“Den vesle prinsen” (The Little Prince) is a theatre production based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s well-known story of the same name. The production is suitable for the whole family, and examines human behaviour as seen through the eyes of a child. The main message of the story can be summed up in the secret the fox tells the little prince: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

The ensemble has integrated elements from Norwegian folk music and dance into the performance, and presents a touching, thought-provoking, charming and humorous story about the little prince who travels all over the world to find friends. Fiddler and dancer Gro Marie Svidal plays the role of the little prince, while dancer and two-row accordion player Ulf-Arne Johannessen plays all the other roles. The music is performed by accordionist Tom Karlsrud.

This production had its premiere at the Førde Folk Music Festival in 2006, and is a co-production of the festival, SOFTeater and Sogn og Fjordane County Authority. The production has toured under the auspices of the Cultural Rucksack in Sogn og Fjordane County.

“Saint-Exupéry’s world-famous story is told in an unusually beautiful and wise fashion. This viewer was on the verge of tears.”
